Architectural Aesthetic vs. Functional Design
The Challenge
The client's desire for a specific architectural aesthetic that included a reverse shed roof system posed a problem for a design that would support the rooftop against sitting rainwater and other natural elements.

The Solution
We provided specialized detailing and framing for this unique roof system that accommodates the unique water path. This allows for the water to flow and collect at an interior collection point where it is then moved through the framing and foundation and then discharged outside of the building. In order to prevent water accumulation that could lead to a progressive collapse, we designed a unique framing system limiting deflections.

Lateral Loads
This project was featured on Dwell.com
Burton Baldridge designed, Foursquare Builders constructed. This elegant modern gem garnered national attention as a featured article in Dwell magazine.  We were very proud to be part of this wonderful project.

The Challenge
Our roll was to design the structural components of this modern masterpiece - foundation, framing, and lateral stability. The challenge with this was the lateral stability due to the limited amount of wall space to transfer lateral loads.

The Solution
The solution was to place a large steel frame in the carport area, along with large horizontal diaphragms to transfer the lateral loads to the limited amount of robust sheer walls.
